Meet the Designer

Hi, I’m Maritza M.

It’s safe to say, I’m a social butterfly. I was born into a traditional Mexican household of six and am the only girl out of four children. I like to think I’m a tough cookie because I was raised with three brothers, that is until a romantic movie comes on. Growing up, we’ve always kept the traditions going in my family. From the tres leches cake on every birthday to the tamales on Christmas Eve.

The importance of family is a key component I brought into creating and running Flourish Design & Co. I absolutely love meeting new people and hearing all of the wonderful love stories they bring. I’m a sucker for love and it’s something I feel connects me to every single one of my clients. During this entire process, I aim to make you feel right at home, because in my eyes, you are more than just a love story, you are family.

My favorite things combined

  1. Travel + Food

As I got older and began to travel outside of my own city, I realized how big the world really is and how many wonderful things it has to offer. Creating memories, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures and languages, tasting all of the delicious food each city, town, and village bring to the table is amazing.

2. Nature + Hiking

One of the greatest things I enjoy the most in life, is being outside. Regardless of whether it’s on the beach, in the forest, or on a cliff, I am there. Something about being outside in nature really helps center me whenever I’m feeling dis attached or overwhelmed. There’s so much natural beauty out there and I really hope everyone gets to enjoy it as much as possible in their lifetime.

3. My Furry Bff + The Beach + Sunsets

There’s a saying out there that most people seem to know, “A dog is a human’s best friend”. Well, that saying is 1000% true in my life and it works both ways! This is Nalah, the sweetest, most-affectionate, (and dramatic) chocolate labrador retriever. Since the day I laid eyes on her, I knew she was my best friend. She’s been my cuddle buddy, my crying partner, my soulmate for years and I could honestly talk about her forever while getting emotional (dog owners will understand).

One of our favorite things to do together is go on a walk at our favorite place during our favorite time of the day, the beach at sunset. While she gets to run and splash in the water, I get to sit in the sand and watch the sun go down on the horizon. I like to think the beach allows us both to escape life for just a moment and enjoy paradise in its full glory. If you are ever wondering where we are, we are most likely here.

4. Flowers +flowers + more flowers

How do I even begin to describe the love I have for flowers? I’ve always known I loved nature and the outdoors, but when it came time to really focus on my career choice and figure out what truly made me happy, flowers were the one thing that popped into my head.

After taking a few floral design classes, I got my first flower job at a small mom and pop fruit stand. I was hired to make $10 bouquets to place on a flower cart for customers to buy when they stopped for fresh fruit. It wasn’t much, but it certainly gave me the practice I needed to perfect my bouquet making. Fast forward to a year later, and I was thrown into the wedding industry with full force. It was amongst the height of wedding season, and I began working for a full-service wedding design company that really showed me the grand intensity behind the scenes of a wedding that I absolutely fell in love with.

I like to believe I work my best under pressure, which really helps me focus when I’m designing and setting up all of the beautiful weddings I get to be a part of. Every now and then, I reflect back on that day in 2015 and realize I am waking up doing what I love to do most, being a FLORIST.
